According to Digitimes Research, the global IC foundry output in 2014 is expected to increase by almost 9%, while the entire semiconductor industry output increased by only 5.2%. Digitimes Research said it expected to rise in 2014 and the foundry industry output has slowed down compared to the previous two years, in 2013 an increase of 15% in 2012 to 19.9%. The study said that TSMC is expected in 2014 to focus on 20nmSoC production process, while producing 12 inches of new fab can also be on the line. Research revealed that rival Global foundries and Samsung Electronics will also improve 20nm chip production capacity in the first half of 2014. The study said, because Apple loses Samsung orders, its 2014 production foundry capacity utilization could fall. Driven Application Processor IC orders from Apple as well as smart phones and tablet PCs of strong demand, TSMC 2014 in the global foundry market share is expected to rise 48.4% in 2012 to 50.3%.
